Skiing Skincare

So, in just under two weeks, I am heading off skiing for the first time ever! Whilst I have been worrying about ski gear, the long journey, and most importantly how to actually ski (as I have no idea!) it has also been on my mind that the harsh cold weather is going to have an effect on my skin and body. So I have done some research into brilliant super strength products and am going to list some below for you budding skiers out there! I am also going to include some of my recent favourite skin care products that I have been really enjoying!

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser – £15

This cleanser has been YouTuber’s and social media influencer’s favourite for several years and a star product for the brand since it was founded in 1995. It is sold in multiple stores around the country, most easily found in Boots or John Lewis, including the respective websites. It has won over 100 awards and has been no. 1 skin cleanser, according to QVC beauty awards, for multiple years, including 2018. Containing ingredients such as cocoa butter, chamomile and eucalyptus extracts and beeswax, this cleanser leaves your skin feeling, smelling and looking gorgeous.

I love this product. I had been meaning to try it out for years, but always thought it would be quite expensive! After looking at the modest price of £15, I thought it would be worth a go!   I am so pleased I tried it! It cleans my skin beautifully, not only after I have been wearing foundation or a lot of makeup, but also from all the everyday grime and dirt that it encounters from just living in a busy city! it moisturises your skin and leaves it feeling baby soft and smooth. I use it with the Liz Earle muslin cloth which delicately exfoliates and washes away the cleanser, taking with it the dirt and dead skin. I can’t wait to try this when I go skiing (not that the air in the isn’t the cleanest in the world!) but with the everyday freezing temperatures, my skin will need a little love, and the Cleanse and Polish™ is the best way to do it!

Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser™ – £21

Following on from the previous product and sticking for the moment with Liz Earle, I have recently purchased their moisturiser and I LOVE it. It leaves my skin really soft and smooth, the same as the cleanser, and it smells heavenly!

231417761

With extracts of Echinacea, a naturally smoothing and conditioning and avocado oils brilliant for nourishing the skin, this moisturiser leaves the skin suitably moisturised without an oily or sticky residue. It is available for normal/combination skin and dry/sensitive skin, and although my skin has been described as combination to normal, I chose the sensitive formula to battle the extreme cold temperatures in the snow. Although I’m not skiing yet, I have been using it over the past couple of weeks, and I have had multiple comments on how ‘glowy’ and healthy my skin looks! It really is great, and I would recommend, if you’re not certain to pop into a Boots and speak to the experts at the Liz Earle counter, as they can advise you on which product might be right for you.

Liz Earle Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic Spritzer – £15.50

Again! Back at it with Liz Earle! But seriously, this tonic spritzer is my favourite thing to have in my handbag at the moment. The best way I have found to use this is to apply my moisturiser and then whilst it is still soaking into my skin, I spray this four or five times over my face and it seals the moisturiser into my skin and forms a protective layer against harsh weather and air conditions!

231417760

In the snow this will be perfect and I have found my skin to be bouncier and plumper when I use these two in combination! It has a similarly dreamy scent to it, and when spritzing this, don’t hold back! The more you apply, the better! I haven’t tried this over makeup yet, but I’m not sure that it has any makeup setting power within it, so it may not work as a replacement for your everyday setting spray!

Containing organic aloe vera, cucumber and chamomile, it really gives your skin the very best care!

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub – £9.95

Onto another one of my newer brands that I have recently begun to use; Nip + Fab! This brand is brilliant! I have also used their Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme, which you can find here. The Glycolic Fix range features many products with the main ingredient of glycolic acid, no surprise! Now, I have always been a bit wary of products containing any acids, so for example, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid or glycolic acid. However, I have discovered these products are completely safe for use on your skin! The one thing I do note is to be careful around sensitive areas of your face, such as under and around the eyes, and to generally go quite gently with these products, as I just don’t like using too much of them. Another thing I have found is that the acid tends to clear my pores out so well that it strips them of excess oil, therefore meaning your skin produces more oil. So, around oilier areas of my skin I will only use these products lightly as I don’t want an overload of oil the next morning.

08_nip_fab-post-nip_fab-glycolic-scrub_fix-75m_5

That said, I really like using the Glycolic Fix Scrub. In a face scrub, I look for two things; a soft, finely ground exfoliant and a result that I can see and feel after one use, making my skin visibly clearer. This face scrub is both of these and clears my face of any dry or dead skin leaving behind a fresh, clean base for me to apply moisturiser. I exfoliate twice weekly and am desperately trying to stick to a continuous skincare routine, rather than sporadically applying products if and when I feel I need them. When skiing, this scrub will come with me and be part of my snow skincare routine, as I feel it will do an excellent job of removing dry skin from the cold weather.

Nip + Fab is widely available, I have found them in Waitrose, Superdrug, Boots and obviously online on their website nipandfab.com.

Patchology Restoring Night CloudMasque™ Sleeping Mask – £35

This moisturiser… what can I say? Although it’s called a mask, I use it as a nightly moisturiser, and it is amazing. The first time I used it, the morning after I could see instant results. My skin was more plump, bouncy, youthful and glowing with moisture. When using this, I usually complete my cleansing in the evening and then apply a thin layer, avoiding my oilier areas (I’ll explain why in a moment’s). Then I go to bed, go to sleep etc. and wake up the next morning with beautifully moisturised skin. Now, in the morning I like to wash my face by just splashing some water after using this, as this mask can leave an oily ‘moisture’ residue on the skin. Of course, this would make sense with this being a mask, as it is designed to be washed off I would imagine, although I’m sure I read somewhere it can be left the next morning throughout the next day. Overall though, this mask is brilliant.

uk200020990_patchology

Its active ingredients include Hyaluronic acid, Retinol and Peptide complexes, which combined work towards hydrating your skin, restoring your skin cells and reducing fine lines and wrinkles (if that’s an issue you are particularly conscious of). With a peaceful and dreamy scent of jasmine, this moisturiser helps you to fall asleep and get your skin the well needed rest and repair time that it needs. Whilst skiing this will be great for an overnight fix after a long day on the slopes and an easy way to ensure my skin is ready to go the next morning.

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips – £12

Yes, you read that right! Nipple Balm! So the story goes; the founder of Dr. Lipp (Pontine Paus) had eczema and researched online for the best moisturising and nourishing product and found nipple balm contained this miracle ingredient called Lanolin. This ingredient dates back to 90AD?! and mimics the skins oils and moistures perfectly. So she   decided to create her own nipple balm, which she promotes for ‘Dry Skin, Luscious Lips & Glossy Bits’. Since then, her Dr. Lipp Nipple Balm has become widely popular among celebrities and makeup artists and my attention was drawn to it after I walked into Space NK asking for the lady’s recommendation on the best lip balm they sell, and she pointed me to this! I haven’t looked back since, neither have I used anything else. It is moisturising, glossy, high shine, nourishing… it has it all. I use it as an overnight intense lip balm to help restore the skin on my dry and chapped lips in these cold conditions (perfect for skiing!) or as a lip gloss when I’m wearing makeup, or just simply, as my go to lip balm.

drlipp-original-high-res-transparent-2-copy

The company prides itself on 100% natural ingredients, with one sole ingredient, Lanolin. This means there are no nasty chemicals, no acids, no harsh ingredients, just Lanolin.  If you want to read up on this completely natural and miracle ingredient head to the Dr. Lipp website! This will be perfect for my ski trip, where I will probably apply it as much as I possibly can, bearing in mind, the temperatures in England cause dry and cracked lips easily, so temperatures down near -15ºC are guaranteed to!

So there it is! My favourite products for the cold, wintery season we are currently in, and the products I will be taking with me skiing to battle the freezing temperatures! Remember, if you are going outside, wrap up warm and take good care of your skin! It needs more love than you think and taking a little extra time to look after it can make a world of difference in the long run!

Thank you so much for reading my blog, and I will hopefully be posting more frequently, so keep an eye on my Instagram and Facebook for when I announce new posts!

First Christmas Shop

Some people might think mid-November is too early to start your Christmas celebrations, but for me, the excitement is in the build-up to the big day. The fairy lights and tinsel going up, mince pies coming out in stores, Christmas candles and of course, all the best Christmas music. I did a bit of shopping yesterday, and although not all of the products were Xmas themed, the majority of them fit the bill!

I have been buying presents for friends and family and frantically trying to think up ideas for my Secret Santa, but I have also been treating myself to a few things too, so I thought I’d share them with you. I’ll do the non-Christmas bits and bobs first, and save the best for last!

Makeup Organising:

I have been after a makeup organiser for a while now, and I knew I could get my hands on one in Tiger, one of my favourite stores. As I am starting to film more content for YouTube and some of this will be makeup themed, I thought it was about time I organised myself properly. So yesterday I popped in and looked through their collection and saw they had a small one that fits perfectly at the front of my makeup table. This, along with my new vanity box I have recently got, and now I’m quite chuffed with how it has turned out! I think this one was £7, and they had a couple that were either larger or smaller, so they have a good selection to choose from.

No.36 Sea Salt Mist Reed Diffuser:

A couple of months ago, I bought this candle from good old Primark, but it burnt out within a few uses, so when I went back in to get another one, I spotted this and decided that it was better value for money, not to mention, you lose the danger element aka FIRE. I am really happy with it so far… it claims to last 8 weeks so I will keep an eye out for when the smell dwindles away. It was only £3 whereas a large candle was £5 and it only burned for 60 hours, which sounds like a lot but I’m sure it isn’t 8 weeks worth. So depending on how well this works, I may be sticking to diffusers from now on!

Christmas Fairy Lights:

As somebody asked me the other day; what makes a light a Christmas light? I couldn’t answer apart from saying that some of mine were shaped like snowflakes, even so, they are winter, not Christmas… anyway. I bought two new sets of lights for this season, to go with the other I purchased last year. I am much happier with the new ones, well done Primark, you’ve upped your game! They are much brighter and I love how they are smaller lights on a wire, which makes them more delicate, but they look prettier intertwined with tinsel, which is how I have displayed one of the sets. I have the 40 Copper Wire LED Star lights (£4) and 40 LED Firefly lights (£2.50), which are both 4.35m long, so ample to adorn places in your room like your desk or mirrors. Because they are much lighter weight this year, they are also easier to keep in place, by using small blobs of blue-tac. They take 3 AA batteries, so I keep them turned off when I am not in my room, but they are much brighter, as I mentioned before, and I think this is why.

Festive Slippers:

I couldn’t go another Christmas without some of these, and I saw the perfect pair hanging by the tills on the way to pay in Primark, so I threw them in the basket last minute and I’m glad I did, especially for £3.50! They are the Reindeer Novelty Footlets and they’re super comfy, perfect for popping on when watching a Christmas movie with a hot chocolate and a blanket. Nothing better!

Yankee Candles:

I have always loved Yankee Candles and last Christmas my mum bought me one, so when I finished it the other day, I knew I wanted some new ones. I went into the store in town and bought a couple of mini ones for £1.99 each, or £10 for 12 (for a limited time only). I purchased Sparkling Snow and Snow In Love in the ‘votive’ size. Sparkling Snow is described on the website as having Top Notes of Sweet Orange, Pine Needles, Crisp Mint, Mid Notes of Evergreens, Blue Spruce, White Pine, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Bay Leaf, Juniper Berry and Base Notes of Frosted White Musk, Fir Balsam, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Patchouli. The Snow In Love is described as having Top Notes of Citrus, Mid Notes of Spicy, Floral, Jasmine and Base Notes of Oriental, Woody, Patchouli, Sandalwood. If you can imagine what any of that smells like, I applaud your knowledge of scents, because all I know is they smell lovely.

The Body Shop Bath Bombs and Bubbles:

The final thing I’m sharing today is The Body Shops new range of Bath Bombs and Bubbles. I’m not going to say too much because I am planning a review of these soon! They come in 8 scents, five of which are Bath Bombs (Mango, Strawberry, Candied Plum, Vanilla and Green Tea) and the other three are Bath Bubbles (Coconut, Moringa and Pink Grapefruit). I was able to get my hands on 5 of these and I am very excited to share with you guys my thoughts on them, so keep an eye out for the upcoming blog post!

Winter: Eyes

I am so sorry that it’s 2017 and I’m not posting until February! 1/12 of a year has passed and the 2nd is rapidly speeding by, meaning I have to get my act together and finally write again!

I am going to be writing a collection of posts which can be found under the menu; Star Items. These will be written down to what time of the year it is and will recommend a selection of products that I am loving at the time. Today I am going to share the first collection, for Winter, and this post focuses on any eye products I am using that are really standing out to me.

Shadows:

My first products are the Full Throttle Eyeshadow Palettes from NYX, in two colours, Riot and Bossy. Here are a couple of photos of each, to show you what they look like in the palette.

‘Riot’ is my preferred palette however, I use both together when I am wanting a stronger look, especially for a night out, a party or just for a slightly different smoky eye. I have been using the light pink shade in the ‘Bossy’ palette as a base colour, gently blending it out over the entire eyelid I then use the amber/orange shade lightly dusted to add a brighter colour to the eyes. On top, I use the dark red shade and blend this across the whole eyelid, but focussing it on the outer corner and along the lash line, creating a natural shadow, as well as then using the ocre shade to blend into the crease of my eyelid, adding depth.

I discovered something recently, that if you use red or pinky tones on your eyes, the iris’s tend to appear more green, and if you use more orange or coral colours, they appear more blue. There is an alternative to make your eyes seem darker, brighter etc. but for me, these two are closest to my natural colour.

Therefore, depending on what colour I am wanting to enhance on the day, I will either use the orange or the red more strongly. If I am going out and want to make the eye slightly smokier, I blend the dark purple shade from ‘Bossy’ into the burgundy and add the silver glitter sparkle shade to top it off. If I am going for a more subtle look, then I take my single eyeshadow from NYX in shade ‘Showgirl’ (not pictured above), which is a glittery red pigment, and dust this across the lid. Finally, I use the white glitter shade from ‘Riot’ in the inner corners of my eyes, just to make my eyes seem wider and more awake!

Mascara:

I have three mascaras I am absolutely loving at the moment, and all three do slightly different things, but they don’t disappoint! I am going to briefly outline how each is different and why I am liking using it so much!

Lancôme Grandiose Mascara:

img_2796

Although at a first glance, this mascara might seem too quirky and different to actually deliver great results (I’m thinking of the wand), after giving it a go, I am happy to share that I was pleasantly surprised. This mascara has a small, plastic (which I prefer) brush, at the end of an angled wand, designed to make getting to outer and inner corners, easier and ensuring you can get super close to your lash line. The brush, has short and longer bristles, meaning you can get to the lash line without smudging mascara on the tops of your eyelids. The effect is said to be volumising, however I would rate this higher as a lengthening mascara, not to say that it doesn’t add incredible volume to my lashes, but on me, the length is the main difference I notice. What attracts me most is not only the length it gives, but the length without the clumpiness, therefore fanning out the lashes. It does cost slightly more than your average Rimmel Scandal Eyes, at £26 a pop, but in my opinion, it is worth it for the unique wand and fanned out lash effect it gives.

Clinique Chubby Lash:

Clinique’s Chubby Lash mascara has become my new favourite number one for everyday use, and chances are, if you see me, I’ll be wearing it. There are several things I love about this mascara, for instance, the fact that even though it is brilliant for building layers and adding intense volume, it also provides astonishing volume with just one coat. I also like that it slightly clumps, making the lashes look bigger and bolder. It is also waterproof and sweat proof, I have tested it multiple times at the gym guys, so trust me, even though this does not claim to be a waterproof formula. This is another added bonus for me, as I find with waterproof mascara I can never get it off in the evening without a specialist remover, but because this is made to be removed easily, it is just as quick to take it off as it is to put on. At slightly less than the Lancôme, £14.75, this is an absolute steal and I will certainly be purchasing another tube once mine runs out.

Kiko 30 Day Lash Extension:

On the slightly lower end of the my favourites spectrum, this Kiko lash extension mascara adds gentle volume and length for an everyday natural look. I have been known to use this lots in the summer when the weather is hot and I am not feeling like a heavy day of makeup, or if I just feel like something a little softer on the eyes. Whilst it claims to revitalize your lashes over 30 days and improve their growing power, I have never seen too much difference, however this doesn’t mean I don’t like what it looks like on. It suggests that after using this, other products will look better, as it has enhanced your natural lashes, but I think this product alone is suffice, and looks beautifully natural when you just don’t want to layer up the mascara to get the smoky volumised eye makeup effect everyday. At £7.90 from the Kiko website or any Kiko store, for me, this is a bargain and something I have repurchased as it is something I like to have all the time, just in case. Not to mention, if you wanted to volumise and lengthen your lashes to the maximum, a coat of this almost acts as a primer for other mascaras and lays a good foundation for a killer false lash look.

Benefit’s Roller Lash:

After previously mentioning this product about a year ago, saying that it was one of my least favourite Benefit products, I have been converted, and am in love with the gentle length and curl it effortlessly creates. The thin brush and wand make it feel effortless applying it to your lashes and creating a natural curl. The thin bristles really grab every lash and pull them to curl upwards. At £20.50, although I know there is the cheaper option of the Maybelline Lash Sensational at only £7.99, I would recommend this mascara to anybody opting for a slightly more natural look, edging away from volume and wanting more length to their curl.

Everybody swaps between products, especially when you want to try different things, so I know that these might change in the coming posts, but I am enjoying these at the moment and I thought it was a good time to share it with you!

Thank you guys! You’ll hear from me again soon!

Your Own Winter Wonderland

Winter is almost upon us, and I am certainly starting to feel the change. The clocks went back, the temperatures have dropped and cold’s are everywhere. There are two kinds of people in the world; those that hate winter, and then those that love winter. I have to admit, I am the latter of the two and therefore am going to have so much to share with you over the next few months, so keep an eye out for new posts.

Today’s post though, I think it’s safe to say that most people associate winter with Christmas, and you know when Christmas is coming because everybody slowly starts getting more and more festive. The John Lewis advert is released, songs suddenly start popping up on the radio and you stumble across the decorations from last year, somehow managing to avoid them for the past 11 months. On this note, I would like to quickly mention that I have already started the run up to Christmas, and am very excited for December to arrive so I can start celebrating without getting strange glances from all the people that wait until December 1st!

I thought I would share with you 4 little changes you can make to your bedroom, to make yourself feel just that little bit more festive, ready for December 25th.

  1. Buying a Christmas themed duvet set is always a brilliant way to start, as often your bed is the main feature in the room, so festivising, yes, I made that up, will be a small change but will make a big difference!

I bought this duvet set last year, and have one other with beige tones throughout and a reindeer pattern. The one above is reversible so one day I might prefer the red, others I might prefer the white. It has a really thick feel to it, and paired with a winter duvet, snuggling up when it’s bitterly cold outside is no problem. And the best part is, I bought it for only £14 in Primark! Even though this is from last year, I am still going to have a cheeky look for another one, as I love them!

2. The next step, as you might have already picked up on, is to buy multiple Christmas throws to go on top of your bed. Not only do they look super festive, but they keep you warm if your heating breaks down, you want to lounge around the house or perhaps it is just especially cold. I have two, one from my beloved Primark from last year, which is the white one, and then the other is from Tesco and is available in red or blue.

3. Next, lights! By lights I mean little strings of Christmas fairy lights, that you can hang, scattered, cluster and everything else you could possibly think of doing with them! When it gets to December, and I fully decorate my room, I use Christmas tree lights and wrapped them around the feet of my bed. You could use white, arctic blue or even multi-colored lights and it just adds something more to the room. The lights I have up now are two sets of 20 from Primark at £5 a box. I have a set of blue stars, and a set of white snowflakes and I put them along my bookshelves and around the edge of my mirror.

4. My last thing (until December) is scented candles, which I place around my room in groups or just large ones alone. My candles are not Christmas scented, but yours could be! I like mine because they add a beautiful glow to corners in my room, and the scents on them smell gorgeous! My favorite two that I have are ‘Coastal Walk’ from M&S for £15 and ‘Honey & Chocolate’ from Glade for £2. I will be investing in Christmas scented candles soon!

Thank you for reading my latest post and as I mentioned earlier, I love the festive season, so be expecting much more to come!

Fall Footwear

So it’s come to that time of the year where boots, coats, scarfs, hats and gloves come out, as the bitterly cold English wind cuts across the country and the leaves begin to fall. What am I talking about? Fall, of course, my favourite time of the year.

It’s not just the Pumpkin Spice Latte’s and the appearance of Christmas decorations that I adore, but fall fashion, to me, is the best of the year. I will be covering other bits and pieces as the season goes on, but today, we’re talking shoes.

Shoes for fall are absolutely gorgeous, ranging from a pair of Dr Martins, Ugg Boots or Trainers. As soon as we hit the season, new ranges and lines are brought out by each and every shoe company and the fun truly begins. Colours in the autumn are all based around the oranges, reds and browns; subtle but powerful. So there’s no surprise that a lot of the shoes brought out in fall are based around these colours, and others similar. I’m going to show you some of my favourites, including a couple of pairs I have purchased myself and some that are on my wish list.

The first I’m going to show you are the classic’s for fall. The Ugg Boots. The company Ugg has brought out so many different types, from heels to slippers, but the all time favourite is the boots. On my wish list, this year are the Bailey Bow Boots, a beautiful short boot, lined with the classic faux fur, but with a cute twist of a bow lacing up the back.

Next is the simple but classic, black heeled ankle boot. These became popular two winters ago; I remember buying mine and ended up getting horrible blisters for weeks because I didn’t break them in properly. Not only do these give the short girls a little extra height if it is wanted, but they look good with any outfit, skinny jeans and a winter coat, tartan pencil skirt and a blouse, you name it and they are bound to match. Mine were from Topshop, but I know a girl who bought a gorgeous pair from River Island, and many other stores stock them too, especially as we approach autumn and winter.

Next, we are going to look at not a boot, but a trainer. I have recently purchased the pair of Khaki green Nikes (below) and the others I had to decide between and were strong contenders for my autumn trainer. I really love wearing a pair of trainers, all year round, as they are so comfortable, they come in hundreds of different styles and colours and they last at least a year or two or full wear. If you don’t have a pair of fashion trainers, then you should really consider owning a pair, as they are brilliant for comfort but look gorgeous too.

Finally, my all time favourite, Timberland Boots. I bought my first ever pair last autumn and I wore them nearly every day for the whole season. They are comfortable, fashionable, keep your toes warm and go with every pair of jeans or leggings you own. As well as all of this, they are fully winter proof, being waterproof and supplying excellent support for those winter walks through the woods with the dogs.

Thank you so much for reading my latest post, and I hope I have given you some ideas for your perfect footwear wardrobe for fall!

In & Out : Hoodies & Sweatshirts

Being observant, as I am, I was wondering through the shopping centre in Brighton and noticed in lots of stores that I walked through, that hoodies and sweatshirts are SO IN at the moment! This is brilliant news, as a hoodie, even though a basic item, can bring a casual, ruffled look together, instantly.

Pair a pair (isn’t that funny?) of your favourite jeans together with your favourite hoodie, add a pair of Adidas Superstars and a throw-it-all-in handbag and this look is perfect for those days where the temperature is starting to drop. After all, the temperatures will only fall from now on as we head towards autumn and you don’t want to get chilly! Even in the late days of summer, it can get slightly colder and most hoodies, you can easily fold up and put in your bag, ready in case you need them.

There are two types of jumpers I have seen a lot of recently; hoodies and sweatshirts. I am going to show you a few of my favourites down below and some that I plan on purchasing, and if you want to take a look at prices and where they come from, hover (or click) to see more details. Or if you want to visit the website directly, click on the links below!

These ones are from Topshop and Asos, and are just a few of a huge collection they have!

Although you may be sad to part with the money for a new hoodie at the time, I know I am, after a few months, you will be very glad you indulged in your new favourite item of clothing. After all, who says a hoodie can’t be worn everywhere? Mine are worn out, at home relaxing, in bed overnight, to the gym, pretty much anywhere and everywhere!

Hoodies and sweatshirts are only two of a number of styles and there is sure to be a jumper somewhere out there that is ready to be your next best thing!

Have a browse and make sure you show me anything you buy! You can inbox me at my official address (imogensoperblogs@gmail.com) or add me on social media! I’d love to hear from you all!
